Merck Lands Hot Cancer Drug in $2.13 Billion Deal
Pharmaceutical giant Merck has entered into an exclusive license agreement with SciBrunch Therapeutics for global rights to SPR2015, a preclinical KRAS G12D inhibitor being developed for colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and non-small cell lung cancer. The deal is worth up to $2.13 billion, including a $400 million upfront payment plus development, regulatory, and commercial milestones.
SPR2015 has shown promising results in preclinical models, demonstrating nanomolar activity and antitumor efficacy against the KRAS G12D mutation. Merck plans to leverage this technology to develop new treatments for these cancers, which are often aggressive and difficult to treat.
In other news, the FDA has approved three new therapies: Eli Lilly's Olumiant for pediatric alopecia areata, AbbVie's Juvmo for Parkinson's disease, and Incyte's Atebrioz (commercialized by Mirum) for fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva. These approvals mark significant advancements in the treatment of these conditions.
