Xbox Franchises Worth Billions on the Table for Hollywood
Microsoft is reportedly shopping for a major movie deal covering its Xbox franchises, including Halo, World of Warcraft, The Elder Scrolls, and Diablo. According to Puck's Matthew Belloni, the tech giant has pitched a single long-term agreement with one partner for an asking price above $300 million.
The proposal would grant adaptation rights for movies and TV shows, while Microsoft retains ownership of the underlying intellectual property. This is a significant shift from previous deals, where individual games were licensed to Hollywood.
Several studios are said to be examining the offer, including Netflix, Paramount, and Universal. However, it's unclear whether any of them have submitted an official bid or confirmed interest.
The deal would not only provide a major revenue stream for Microsoft but also cement its position as a leading player in the gaming industry.
