Xbox's Disc-to-Digital Program Now Available to All Players
Microsoft has rolled out its Disc-to-Digital program to all Xbox players, allowing them to convert supported physical games into digital licenses. The feature was initially tested with Xbox Insiders in August and is now available on both Xbox One and Series X|S consoles.
To use the program, players simply need to insert an eligible game disc into their console and associate a digital license with their Microsoft account. This can be done for multiple discs at once, making it convenient for collectors with large physical libraries.
Not all Xbox games are eligible for conversion, however, as some publishers have chosen not to participate in the program. Users will see a 'Disc license unavailable' message if they try to convert an ineligible game. The list of participating publishers has been expanding since the feature's release, with Ubisoft and Sega recently joining.
For collectors who want to retain their physical copies while accessing digital versions of their games, Microsoft provides an FAQ explaining how the system works. This includes instructions for processing multiple discs efficiently and associating licenses with different Microsoft accounts.
