Aba in Abia State has been thrown into darkness due to an unexpected disruption of natural gas supply to the Geometric Power Plant. The power plant, which generates 188 megawatts of electricity and supplies it to the area, has experienced a significant drop in gas pressure over the last 24 hours.

According to Ugo Opiegbe, Managing Director of Aba Power, the distribution arm of the Geometric Power Group, the gas supplier, Heirs Energies, is experiencing technical issues with its Associated Gas Gathering (AGG) facilities. This has resulted in a pressure that is not strong enough to power the plant's turbines, each with a capacity of 47 megawatts.

A top official at Nigeria Gas Marketing Limited (NGML), who spoke on condition of anonymity, claims that there is sufficient gas volume for the Geometric Power Plant. However, the issue lies in Heirs Energies' inability to swap its gas with that of NGML due to constraints in their AGG facilities.
