Canada Announces Ambitious Plan to Become Global Energy Leader
Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney announced at the Canada Investment Summit that his country is unleashing its full potential as an energy superpower. He outlined a vision for the future, including a new pipeline carrying one million barrels of Alberta oil per day to Asia and quadrupling LNG exports.
The goal is ambitious, but it's not just about meeting targets. Carney wants Canada to be a major supplier in any energy mix, whether that includes nuclear, hydro, natural gas, or wind power.
Three TSX stocks are poised to benefit from this vision: TC Energy (TSX: TRP), Cameco (TSX: CCO), and Hydro One (TSX: H).
TC Energy owns 94,000 kilometers of natural gas pipelines across North America, putting it in a prime position to meet growing demand for LNG exports. The company's second-quarter earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization climbed to $2.9 billion, up from $2.6 billion a year earlier.
Cameco is another key player, as it mines uranium and provides nuclear fuel services. It also participates in reactor technology and services through its ownership of Westinghouse.
Hydro One owns approximately 30,000 circuit kilometers of high-voltage transmission lines across Ontario, putting it in a good position to support the country's electricity grid expansion.
