US Ambassador Accused of Pressuring Bulgaria into Buying American LNG
US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle has been accused of pressuring the Bulgarian government into purchasing billions of dollars' worth of American liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The investigation, published by The Wall Street Journal and republished by leading Bulgarian news outlets, claims that Guilfoyle directed Bulgarian officials to Greek construction company Aktor as a potential partner for supplying LNG to Southeastern Europe.
Aktor works with Greece's state-owned energy company DEPA as part of a regional project. During meetings with Bulgarian officials, Guilfoyle was accompanied by Christos Marafatsos, an Aktor lobbyist, who also attended a meeting with Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova.
The investigation describes the ambassador as one of the Trump administration's prominent diplomatic figures, associated with the MAGA movement.
