Canada Energy Regulator Approves Trans Mountain Toll Settlement
The Canada Energy Regulator has approved a settlement between Trans Mountain Corp. and companies that use its pipeline to ship oil from Alberta to British Columbia.
A commission of the regulator found the tolls agreed upon were 'just and reasonable.'
This decision allows Trans Mountain to contract up to 90% of its pipeline's capacity, an increase from 80%, with shippers. The company operates a 1,180-kilometre pipeline that runs from Edmonton to Burnaby, B.C., where crude is loaded onto tankers.
The federal Crown corporation announced the settlement in July after 18 months of negotiations with its shippers. Trans Mountain plans to further expand its capacity to 1.19 million barrels a day by late 2028, following a project that tripled the pipeline's capacity to 890,000 barrels per day in 2024.
