Carney and Smith Announce Pacific Link Pipeline Project
Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced the Pacific Link pipeline project, which will carry one million barrels of crude oil per day from Bruderheim, Alta., to a port near Delta, B.C.
The $35 to $44 billion project has been designated as a national interest under the Building Canada Act, streamlining rules and timelines for construction to begin by September 1, 2027.
Carmen said the pipeline will 'materially reduce' Alberta's dependence on US markets and unlock the full potential of Canada as a global energy superpower.
The project is a joint effort between Trans Mountain Corp. and the Alberta government, with Indigenous communities offered a minimum 10% ownership interest.
