Crude Markets Poised for Second Weekly Rally Amid US-Iran Tensions
Global crude markets experienced modest declines on Friday but remain poised for a second consecutive weekly advance amidst escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping channel that facilitates about one-fifth of worldwide petroleum transportation, remains functionally blocked. Vessel movement through the strait continues at approximately 50% of typical volumes.
Washington's vow to impose 'the toughest sanctions in history' on Tehran has added to market uncertainty. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced earlier this week that these sanctions might diminish the necessity for additional military intervention, but specifics regarding the proposed measures remain unclear.
The two benchmark crudes reached their most elevated prices since July 24 during Thursday's trading session. Brent crude decreased 0.18% to settle at $93.61 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate declined 0.41% to $86.47. Notwithstanding Friday's pullback, Brent has climbed more than 5.8% across the week while WTI has advanced 4.8%.
