Crude Oil Prices Plummet as Strait of Hormuz Tensions Ease
Crude oil prices are declining as tensions in the Strait of Hormuz ease following renewed talks between Iran and Oman. Brent crude futures dropped $1.78, or 2%, to $86.80 a barrel by 00:27 GMT on Aug. 26.
The talks aimed at creating a temporary joint navigation corridor and mine clearance have raised expectations for safer passage through the strategic waterway. However, actual shipping activity remains much less reassuring, with only five commodity vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday compared to a 10-day average of 15.
Brent's daily chart shows a double-top structure near $95, suggesting repeated failures at this resistance level have weakened the bullish case. A sustained recovery above approximately $95 would weaken the double-top interpretation and indicate buyers had regained control.
