U.S. data centers are expected to consume an enormous amount of natural gas by 2035, according to BloombergNEF projections.

The research group forecasts that data centers will use around 18 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day by 2035, nearly double previous estimates.

This surge in demand could lead to higher prices and increased greenhouse gas emissions, with an estimated 1 million metric tons of extra pollution per day, equivalent to about 12% of current U.S. emissions.

Grid-connected data centers are expected to drive the majority of this growth, with forecasted consumption outpacing all other grid-connected sectors' growth fivefold through 2035.
