Egypt's LNG Imports Soar to Record High Amid Domestic Gas Output Collapse
Egypt's imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States have surged to a record high in June 2026, reaching 86.05 billion cubic feet.
This represents a 236% increase year-on-year and a 138% rise from May 2026's imports, which stood at 36.17 billion cubic feet.
The sharp decline in domestic gas production is driving Egypt's dependence on external supplies, with output falling from approximately 70 billion cubic meters in 2021 to around 49 bcm in 2024, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
This leaves a significant operational deficit that the country is bridging through imported LNG.
