European Gas Prices Plummet Amid Middle East Diplomacy

European natural gas prices have dropped below €79/MWh after surging in the previous session, as traders monitor diplomatic efforts to end the Middle East conflict.

President Donald Trump has indicated that he would probably be open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is expected to attend the United Nations General Assembly later this week. However, Tehran has yet to respond to the remarks.

The potential for de-escalation could ease concerns over prolonged LNG supply disruptions, but supply risks remain elevated due to the ongoing conflict restricting LNG shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

European gas storage facilities are currently around 68.5% full, which is still below the seasonal average. The situation is further complicated by intense competition for LNG with Asia and ongoing maintenance work on Norway's gas infrastructure.
