Evolution Mining Advances Greater Duchess Copper-Gold Project Acquisition
Evolution Mining (ASX:EVN) is advancing its all-scrip acquisition of the Greater Duchess copper-gold project in north-west Queensland, with a scheme vote expected later this month. The company sent the explanatory booklet to the target's shareholders in late September, keeping the deal on track for implementation by mid-November. The Greater Duchess project, which includes several deposits such as Trekelano, recently saw a resource upgrade that strengthens the case for trucking ore to Evolution's Ernest Henry mill, which has spare processing capacity.
The acquisition, agreed upon in July, involves exchanging new Evolution shares for the target's shares. The offer included a sizeable premium and was unanimously backed by the target's board. Evolution plans to leverage the existing infrastructure at Ernest Henry to process Greater Duchess ore, potentially adding significant copper volume to its annual output while improving asset utilization. The deal also aligns with Evolution's strategy of increasing copper exposure, which complements its gold production.
Separately, Evolution has started drilling at the Nevada North lithium project, a joint venture that offers exposure to battery metals. This move reflects the company's interest in long-term demand themes like electrification. Evolution's share price has risen over the past year, driven by record profits from elevated gold and copper prices. The company's strategic acquisitions and operational focus continue to position it as a key player in the ASX 50 gold sector.
