Farm Bureau Seeks Diesel Price Relief as Harvest Costs Climb
The American Farm Bureau Federation has called on President Donald Trump to provide relief from record-high diesel prices, which are impacting farmers during harvest season.
Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall sent a letter to Trump asking the administration to take several steps, including temporarily suspending the federal highway diesel tax.
The national average price for on-highway diesel has climbed to $6.382 per gallon, while farm diesel prices in the Corn Belt are nearing $6 per gallon.
Farmers rely heavily on diesel throughout the harvest season, using it to operate combines, tractors, and irrigation equipment, as well as transporting crops, livestock, and farm inputs.
