G20 Energy Meeting Highlights US Energy Dominance Amid Global Disruption
At the G20 Energy meeting in Houston, US officials touted American energy dominance while sidestepping discussions about the impact of war in Iran on global energy markets.
The meeting's slogan, 'Unleash the full potential of American energy,' was repeated by US officials throughout the gathering. Interior Secretary Doug Bergum said that the goal is to produce enough energy for prosperity at home and provide secure, affordable, reliable energy for allies.
However, the industry is concerned about the disruption caused by the war in Iran, particularly with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the potential impact on Saudi oil exports. Analyst John Kilduff noted that a world without Middle Eastern oil would be 'like a band without a drummer.'
The US is banking on domestic production to meet growing demand, particularly for artificial intelligence needs. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a reduction in limits on pollution from gas- and coal-fired power plants.
