Ghana's Gold Exports Resume After Summer Slowdown
The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, announced that gold export shipments from Ghana have resumed after a slowdown in August. He noted that the exports did not pause entirely but became less regular.
Ghana's official gold reserves rose to 25.2 tonnes valued at $3.565 billion by August, up from 24.4 tonnes worth $3.652 billion in June. The Central Bank Governor explained that the shipment became irregular compared to the last two quarters and resumed regularly last week.
The country's gold exports continue to drive its external trade performance despite reserve pressures, with the commodity pushing total exports to $22.44 billion by August. This has sustained a current account surplus of $5.11 billion in June.
