Global Mineral Supply-Demand Patterns Undergo Profound Shifts: Report
The Global Mining Development Report 2026 has been released by China Geological Survey and China Mining Newspaper, highlighting significant shifts in global mineral supply and demand patterns.
The report notes that while total global production and consumption of energy resources have increased, the internal structure has undergone profound adjustments. Specifically, demand for energy minerals has slowed down, with oil in surplus, natural gas supply and demand rising simultaneously, coal production declining while consumption increasing.
Bulk minerals have also diverged, with steel supply contracting while demand rises, copper and zinc seeing increased supply and demand, and aluminum experiencing a decrease in both. The overall supply of strategic emerging minerals exceeds demand, with a surplus of nickel and lithium deepening.
