Gold Prices Hold Steady Amid Central Banks' Rate Hikes
Gold prices held steady on Wednesday as investors assessed the potential for central banks to keep interest rates high in an effort to combat inflation. Spot gold remained relatively unchanged, trading at $4,356.92 per ounce by 00:40 GMT.
The U.S. Federal Reserve's decision last week to raise its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to a range of 3.75 to 4 percent was cited as a reason for the stability in gold prices. Boston Federal Reserve President Susan Collins stated that she supports this decision, noting risks that inflation could exceed the 2 percent target in the future.
Other precious metals also showed little change, with spot silver rising 0.4 percent to $67.37 per ounce and platinum climbing 0.3 percent to $1,837.80.
