Gold Prices Plummet Nearly 19% from January Record
Gold prices have plummeted nearly 19% from their January record of $5,596, marking its worst monthly loss since 2013. However, despite this significant drop, gold remains resilient and holds above the crucial $4,000 zone.
The metal's price has been declining steadily since hitting an all-time high on January 29. This month alone saw a decline of nearly 20%, which is the largest monthly drop for gold since 2013. The key level that traders are watching closely is now $4,000, with spot gold trading near $4,500 an ounce.
The long-term uptrend in gold prices remains intact, despite the recent correction. Central bank demand and rising macro risks continue to drive interest in gold as a safe-haven asset. Official buying hit 863 tonnes in 2025, far exceeding the prior decade's average of 473 tonnes.
