Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir has warned traders to keep egg prices reasonable, as the government will closely monitor the market and take action against artificial crises or price hikes. At an exchange meeting with egg and poultry sector stakeholders, the minister emphasized that eggs are a vital daily essential food item for the general public.

The minister noted that while traders should make reasonable profits at every stage of the supply chain, they must not destabilize the market by making abnormal profits or creating artificial crises. He stated that the government's goal is to ensure producers receive fair prices, traders make reasonable profits, and consumers can buy eggs at affordable prices.

The meeting was held to review egg production and supply, and traders informed the minister that due to recent price increases in poultry feed ingredients such as corn and soybean, the production cost of each egg has reached around Tk 11. The average selling price of each egg at the producer level was Tk 7.91 in January this year, which increased to about Tk 11.30 in September.
