Ukraine's Late Crops Get Boost from Mid-September Weather
The agrometeorological conditions in Ukraine during the second ten-day period of September were suitable for the final development of late crops. According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, some areas still had insufficient productive moisture reserves, but significant rainfall improved soil moisture conditions in eastern regions.
The average air temperature in the monitoring area was 15.9°C, exceeding the seasonal norm of 15.1°C. The rainfall over the past week totaled 26.8 mm, with a soil temperature at a depth of 5 cm standing at 13.2°C.
Most medium-late crop varieties are currently in satisfactory condition and are at the ripening stage. Soybean plants are around 100-105 cm tall, with no significant disease or pest outbreaks reported. Millet and buckwheat have reached harvest maturity and can be cut into windrows once grain moisture declines to 13-14%.
Other crops such as sunflower and corn are at full maturity and wax maturity stages, respectively. The accumulated effective temperatures above +5°C in the Kyiv region were 30-54°C above the long-term average on September 1-22.
