Government Reassures Citizens on Fuel Supply Amid West Asia Tensions
The Indian government has moved to reassure citizens about fuel supply amid escalating tensions in West Asia. Despite disruptions to global energy markets, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) assures that adequate stocks of petrol, diesel, and LPG are being maintained across the country.
Authorities have emphasized that retail outlets are functioning normally with no shortage of fuel. To alleviate pressure on domestic demand, the Centre has increased refinery output and implemented demand-side measures, including extending LPG booking intervals and prioritizing essential sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions.
The government has also strengthened monitoring systems, issuing over 670 show-cause notices to LPG distributors, while digital booking of LPG has surged to account for 94% of total bookings. To ease pressure on LPG demand, the government has expanded access to alternative fuels, including kerosene and coal.
Additionally, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) reports that maritime operations remain stable with no congestion reported at Indian ports. The government has also established a 24×7 control room to assist seafarers and their families in the Persian Gulf region.
