Neptun Deep Set for Black Sea Gas Production in Mid-2027
The Neptun Deep project in the Black Sea is entering its final execution stages, with OMV Petrom and Romgaz expecting to start gas production in the first half of 2027. The companies have completed seven development wells and are moving forward with the remaining work required before starting commercial production.
The Neptun Alpha production platform has already been installed at sea, and drilling operations continue while other necessary infrastructure for transporting and measuring the extracted gas is completed. OMV Petrom's Cristian Hubati explained that the project is entering its final execution stages, with pending works including the completion of the offshore pipeline and the natural gas measurement station.
Once production begins, the gas will be incorporated into Romania’s National Transmission System, with peak production levels expected to be reached toward the end of the third quarter of 2027. The project is one of the main natural gas developments in the Black Sea and will play a significant role in the Romanian energy supply over the coming years.
