Grains Reverse Course as Cattle Market Remains Volatile
Grain futures took a step back on Tuesday, reversing some of Monday's significant gains in what was dubbed a 'Turnaround Tuesday' session. December corn fell by 6¼ cents to $5.36¾, closing near its daily low after surging more than 15 cents the previous day. The decline was largely attributed to profit-taking and technical selling following the sharp advance on Monday.
November soybeans also dropped, finishing 2½ cents lower at $13.25½. However, soybean meal managed to hold firm, with December meal gaining $2.30 to $370.70 a ton. In contrast, December soybean oil fell sharply and closed at a three-week low.
The wheat market saw the heaviest pressure on Tuesday, with December Chicago wheat dropping 9½ cents to $7.17¼, and December Kansas City wheat falling 13¼ cents to $7.81¼. Technical selling weighed on both winter wheat markets after Monday's rebound.
Cattle futures also reversed lower on Tuesday after Monday's explosive rally. October live cattle fell by $2.17½ to $218.77½, finishing near the session low, while November feeder cattle dropped $2.90 to $323.20. The decline erased a significant portion of Monday's sharp gains as traders took profits and the market continued its recent pattern of large day-to-day swings.
