Houthis Claim Attacks on Saudi Capital Amid Escalating Conflict

The Houthis claimed to have attacked 'sensitive' sites in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, using missiles and drones. This comes hours after flames and a large plume of smoke were seen near King Khalid International Airport. Reuters video showed a huge pillar of black smoke rising from the area, with the airport highway and main terminal building visible.

Saudi Arabia had issued alerts overnight warning of potential danger around Riyadh due to Houthi attacks in the kingdom. The Houthis said their operation was in response to an attack in Yemen's capital Sanaa. There is no immediate comment from the Saudi government on the smoke or the alerts.

The Houthis have been launching attacks against Saudi Arabia since declaring a naval blockade against Riyadh in July, targeting cities, energy infrastructure, and shipping. The escalation has created new threats to global oil supplies and risks the main alternative Red Sea route for Gulf exports.
