Houthis Claim Responsibility for Strikes on Riyadh and Aramco Facilities
A fire erupted near Riyadh's international airport in Saudi Arabia on Saturday after Yemen's Houthi movement announced they had carried out strikes on targets in the Saudi capital and coastal oil facilities.
The Houthis, who are backed by Iran, claimed to have used ballistic and cruise missiles and drones for the attack. The first target was 'sensitive sites' in Riyadh, while the second targeted Aramco facilities in Yanbu.
Saudi Arabia has responded with airstrikes on Houthi-held areas but failed to stop their advance. The recent takeover of the coastline by the Houthis has sparked global concern, with international maritime trade already impacted by Iran's imposition of a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz.
The attack came as the Houthis improve their defences in newly conquered territory along Yemen's Red Sea coastline. Members of the group told AFP they have been installing radar and digging tunnels, and two Houthi sources confirmed that personnel from Iran's Revolutionary Guards had visited the area in recent days.
