The Houthi rebels in Yemen have claimed responsibility for launching missiles and drones at sensitive sites in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The attacks were part of a wider regional escalation, drawing renewed international concern. Saudi authorities had issued overnight alerts warning residents of a potential aerial attack before giving an all-clear on Saturday morning.

A large plume of black smoke was seen rising from the fuel storage area at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. Reuters reported flames were also visible behind what appeared to be fuel tanks. The airport highway, terminal building, and other facilities were visible in the foreground.

The Saudi-led coalition said it had thwarted attacks targeting civilians in Bish and Farasan in southwestern Saudi Arabia, Taif in the west, and Yanbu on the Red Sea coast. However, details of any damage from those attempted attacks were not provided.

The Houthi rebels have intensified their attacks on Saudi Arabia since declaring a naval blockade against Riyadh in July. This escalation has created additional risks for global oil supplies and shipping, particularly as the Strait of Hormuz remains blockaded.
