Houthis Strike Aramco Facility Near Riyadh Amid Escalating Conflict
Yemen's Houthi rebels have escalated their attacks on Saudi Arabia, striking an oil facility near Riyadh and accusing Saudi forces of carrying out dozens of strikes on Sanaa. The Houthis launched a rapid offensive last month, seizing Yemen's entire Red Sea coastline and taking control of the strategic Bab al-Mandab strait.
The attack on the Aramco facility south of Riyadh sparked flames and thick smoke, with firefighters attempting to extinguish the blaze. This is just one in a series of strikes by the Houthis against Saudi oil infrastructure and targets in Riyadh.
The renewed fighting has worsened humanitarian conditions in Yemen, where three-quarters of the population cannot meet its basic food needs, according to the World Food Programme. The Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah TV reported that 26 strikes hit Sanaa, while Saudi authorities reported a Houthi projectile damaged a school near the Yemen border.
