Houthis Target Saudi Capital with Ballistic Missile
Saudi Arabia confirmed that Yemen's Houthi rebels tried to attack its capital, Riyadh, with a ballistic missile on Saturday. This marks the first time Riyadh has been targeted since the escalation in fighting between Saudi-led coalition forces and Tehran-backed Houthis.
The statement from the Saudi-led coalition said that the attempted attack was thwarted, but some residents reported hearing an explosion and seeing a plume of smoke near the airport. There were no reports of casualties or damage.
The Houthi military spokesperson claimed they attacked with cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones, targeting 'sensitive sites' in Riyadh and facilities of Saudi oil giant Aramco in Yanbu. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
