Houthis Target Saudi Capital with Ballistic Missile
Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh was targeted by Yemen's Houthi rebels with a ballistic missile on Saturday, marking the first attack on the city since the escalation in fighting between the two sides.
The Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis confirmed that the missile was intercepted, but some residents heard an explosion and saw a plume of smoke near the airport. There were no reports of casualties or damage.
The Houthis claimed to have targeted 'sensitive sites' in Riyadh and facilities of oil giant Aramco in Yanbu, causing 'massive fires.' However, Aramco did not respond to requests for comment.
The conflict has brought new pressures on markets as the fighting near a key global shipping corridor continues. The United States has signaled it has no current fight with the Houthis, but regional officials have told AP that Saudi Arabia is running low on missile interceptors and has asked other countries for air defense support.
