India Boosts Minimum Support Prices for Rabi Crops, Oilseeds Get Biggest Hike
The Indian government has increased the Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for six mandated rabi crops, effective for the 2027-28 marketing season. The decision was made by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Oilseeds and lentils saw substantial price increases, with safflower receiving the highest absolute increase of Rs 675 per quintal, followed by rapeseed and mustard at Rs 413 and lentil (masur) at Rs 390. Barley rose by Rs 136 per quintal and gram by Rs 83.
The MSP for wheat was increased by just Rs 25 per quintal, with the price rising to Rs 2,610 per quintal from Rs 2,585 in the previous marketing season. The expected margin over the weighted average production cost is estimated at 106% for wheat, 96% for rapeseed and mustard, 92% for lentil, 59% for gram, 58% for barley, and 50% for safflower.
