Iran Awaits US Response as Trump Rejects Peace Plan
A proposed peace plan by Iran has been met with skepticism by US President Donald Trump, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The plan, which was outlined by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi at the UN General Assembly on September 25, would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end fighting in the wider Middle East war within seven days.
Araqchi said that if the US agrees to the deal, Iran would grant no concessions over its rights, including enriching uranium or shipping highly enriched uranium out of the country. The plan also calls for the US to lift its blockade on Iranian ports, release Iran's frozen funds, and waive its oil sanctions.
The proposal has been transmitted to the Americans via Qatari mediators and has raised hopes for a diplomatic breakthrough in the region. However, Trump was privately skeptical that Iran would meet his demands, according to the Journal report.
