Iran Defies US and Israel, Oil Prices Soar Amid Regional Tensions
The Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has claimed that Iran has proven itself to be a 'tough and invincible power' by resisting US and Israeli pressure. Speaking at a televised news conference, Araghchi pointed out that no one thought Iran could resist the US like this, especially given Washington's initial demand for 'unconditional surrender'.
Araghchi noted that 20 days after the start of the war, the same enemy was begging for negotiations. This comes as oil prices continue to rise due to the conflict in the region. Brent crude rose to almost $90 a barrel on Tuesday, while US crude broke past $84.
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important trade routes, has seen a significant decrease in shipping traffic, with only six vessels crossing it on Monday. This has pushed up oil prices and is causing economic concerns for Iran. The country's business leader Majid Reza Hariri warned that Tehran could not simply adapt to the US maritime blockade.
