Iran Hits Oil Tanker in Strait of Hormuz Amid Escalating Tensions

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for striking an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. The state broadcaster cited the Guard as saying that the tanker, the Trend, had attempted to pass through the strait illegally.

The Associated Press could not confirm the report, but said that a ship 'security incident' was reported 16 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman, on the other side of the strait. The crew was safe and no environmental impact was reported.

South Korea's President Lee Jae Myung announced that his government is considering expanding the operations of its naval unit in the Gulf of Aden to protect South Korean vessels and oil shipping routes. However, he stressed that South Korea would not take action that draws it into the US-Iran conflict.
