Kernel's Modular Grain Storage Tackles Ukraine's Export Crunch
Ukraine's agricultural sector is facing a critical storage shortage due to Russia blocking Black Sea exports. Kernel, Ukraine's largest agriholding, has developed a modular grain storage solution that can safely store more grain than regular bags.
The first modular grain storage unit was assembled in just four days and filled with 3,400 metric tons of grain over the next two days. The design was developed by a Ukrainian manufacturer at Kernel's request, who served as the test site and took on the risk of piloting the prototypes.
Kernel has already purchased facilities that will add 40,000 tons of storage capacity to its network. The company plans to use these facilities not only for its own harvest but also to make space available to other agricultural producers.
The modular grain storage units can hold up to 3.5 times more grain than polymer bags and take up less space. They are reusable, can be installed on hard-surface sites, and depend less on the weather.
