Oil Prices Plummet Amid Diplomatic Progress and Improved Saudi Exports
Crude oil prices in the global market have dropped to their lowest level in over a week due to hopes for diplomatic progress regarding the US-Iran standoff and improved oil shipments from Saudi Arabia.
The price of Brent crude fell by $2.16, settling at $101.71 per barrel, while the price of US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude dropped by $2.15 to $98.15 per barrel.
Saudi oil exports have shown improvement despite attacks on the Kingdom by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, with reports indicating that exports exceeded 4 million barrels per day in September.
Tim Waterer, Chief Market Analyst at KCM Trade, noted that hopes for a diplomatic breakthrough this week to ease US-Iran tensions have reduced the risk premium embedded in oil prices; however, he also urged caution regarding the likelihood of a definitive outcome stemming from these hopes.
