Oil Prices Soar as Hormuz Tensions Escalate
Oil prices surged on Tuesday after Iran's Secretary of Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, said that the Strait of Hormuz would not reopen until Washington meets Tehran's conditions. The U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures gained 1.3% to close at $83.20 per barrel, while Brent crude, the international benchmark, advanced 1.36% to settle at $88.91 per barrel.
The Strait of Hormuz has been a point of contention between the U.S. and Iran, with tensions escalating in recent months. The strait is a critical shipping route for oil exports from the Middle East, and its closure has caused concerns about global energy supplies.
Iran's demand that the U.S. unfreeze Iranian funds held overseas as a condition for reopening the Strait of Hormuz adds to the complexity of the situation. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has escalated his rhetoric, demanding that Iran pay reparations to the U.S.
