OPEC+ Agrees to Hold Oil Production Steady Amid Iran War
Seven major oil-exporting nations have decided to maintain their current production levels through November. The agreement was reached by the OPEC+ subgroup, which includes Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman. Their next meeting is scheduled for November 1 to reassess the oil market situation.
The decision comes amid ongoing conflict with Iran, which began on February 28 following U.S. and Israeli attacks. The war has significantly disrupted global oil supplies, pushing the price of benchmark Brent crude oil above $100 per barrel.
In response to rising oil prices, the Group of Seven (G7) wealthy democracies announced plans to release 100 million barrels of oil and fuel products. The G7 emphasized a 'frontloaded substantial release' of diesel within the next 20 days, with the remainder to be distributed over four months. Diesel prices in the United States have reached record highs, affecting farmers, truckers, and consumers who rely on the fuel.
