The Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) has called on the Federal Government and regulators to reassess oil operators' technical capacity, citing a need for increased crude production to reach three million barrels per day by 2030.

PETAN President Wole Ogunsanya made this plea at the Energy Leaders Summit in Lagos, where he stated that some assets with significant production potential have been awarded to companies lacking expertise.

Ogunsanya noted that Nigeria currently produces between 1.7 million and 1.8 million barrels per day but has an opportunity to increase production due to upcoming deepwater projects.
