Petrobras Stock Rises on Significant Oil Discovery Off Amapa
Petrobras, the Brazilian state-owned oil and gas company, saw its stock rise by 3.19 percent on October 2, 2026, after a significant oil discovery in the Morpho well off Amapa.
The Morpho well is located in ultra-deep water, approximately 2,886 meters below the surface, and the discovery was made through electrical logs, rock samples, and fluid samples.
This new finding adds to Petrobras' exploration data and provides a fresh milestone for the market to assess. However, analysts caution that the operational figure matters more than a production estimate at this stage, as the disclosure concerns exploration rather than booked reserves or output.
Petrobras had reported record Brazil-operated oil production of 2.7 million barrels per day in Q2 2026, which puts the exploration update alongside a high-volume operating backdrop. The stock's movement also pushed it close to its yearly peak, with a closing price of USD 21.65 on October 2, 2026.
