Qatar's LNG Export Disruptions Fuel Global Gas Supply Competition

QatarEnergy has extended its force majeure notices to clients in Asia, including Bangladesh and Pakistan, due to ongoing disruptions caused by the US-Iran conflict. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed, affecting Qatar's liquefied natural gas exports.

The Italian utility Edison will not receive LNG cargoes until December, according to a statement from the company. This is the latest extension under a force majeure notification first issued in April.

QatarEnergy has exported just 18 LNG cargoes since August, down from 509 in the same period last year. The winter heating season starting within days will fuel competition for limited supply, keeping gas prices elevated.
