Rubio Praises Guilfoyle Amid Questions Over Energy Ties
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has expressed his admiration for US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle, highlighting her efforts in advancing the Trump administration's agenda in Greece and southeastern Europe. Guilfoyle has been instrumental in promoting US energy interests in the region through projects such as the Vertical Energy Corridor.
Rubio praised Guilfoyle's work in a statement, saying she has 'successfully advanced US energy interests' through regional projects like the bipartisan Vertical Energy Corridor. He also acknowledged her role in promoting US liquefied natural gas deals across southeastern Europe.
The praise comes amidst an investigation by The Wall Street Journal that raised questions about Guilfoyle's dealings with a Greek energy and construction company, as well as her involvement in promoting US liquefied natural gas deals.
Rubio is set to visit Athens on October 6 and 7 for talks expected to cover bilateral relations, energy cooperation, and regional security. The visit marks his first official trip to Greece as secretary of state, providing an opportunity for Washington and Athens to discuss their strategic partnership and shared interests in energy security and regional stability.
