Russia Halts Gas Supplies to Armenia Amid Tensions

Russia's Gazprom Armenia has suspended gas supplies to the country from September 15-25, citing 'scheduled maintenance and repair work in the Russian Federation'.

The move comes just days after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reaffirmed his intention to reduce Armenia's dependence on Russian natural gas imports. Russia provided about 82% of Armenia's overall gas imports in 2022.

Gazprom Armenia assured that the cutoff would not cause a shortage for the Armenian market, thanks to the use of 'domestic reserves and additional gas supplies from the Islamic Republic of Iran'.
