Separatist Pipeline Skeptics Unfazed by Ottawa's Big Oil Boost
Alberta separatists say that Ottawa's decision to prioritize a new pipeline does not change their stance on independence. In fact, they argue that the project is a prime example of why Alberta should leave Canada.
Cory Morgan, an online commentator and organizer behind the Pathway to Independence group, stated that the pipeline announcement 'doesn't change the system whatsoever.' He emphasized that the separation issue is much deeper than the pipeline for independence supporters.
On October 19, Albertans will vote in a referendum on whether to stay in Canada or launch a second binding referendum on separating. Premier Danielle Smith has called for the vote, citing the intensifying debate and need for resolution.
