Shale Producers Gear Up for Strongest Quarterly Profits Since Ukraine Invasion

U.S. shale producers are set to report their strongest quarterly profits since 2022 after the Iran conflict sent crude prices soaring.

Brent crude averaged $126.41 per barrel in April, up from $69.82 in January, while WTI climbed from $65.17 to $109.64.

The earnings boost is expected to rival the windfall producers enjoyed after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with companies such as ConocoPhillips and Occidental Petroleum likely to post sharply stronger second-quarter earnings.

Unlike then, however, analysts say companies are unlikely to ramp up drilling, instead prioritizing dividends, share buybacks, and balance-sheet strength.
