Shell Bolsters Surat Gas Project Investment Amid Global Supply Disruptions
Shell has made an investment in the Surat Gas Project, operated by Arrow Energy in southern Queensland, Australia. The move aims to secure gas supply for Shell's Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) export plant. This development is part of a broader global effort to secure gas supply chains.
The Surat Gas Project has been developed in successive phases since 2010. A first drilling phase was sanctioned in 2020, with production starting the following year. The project has a multi-decade horizon and is designed around investing in tenements as investment decisions are sanctioned.
Shell's Country Chair for Australia and Executive Vice President of Integrated Gas Australia, Cecile Wake, oversees the project. She previously led Arrow Energy as managing director between 2020 and 2023.
