Shell's LNG Business Booms to Nearly 70 Million Metric Tons Annually
Shell's massive liquefied natural gas (LNG) business has grown significantly in recent years. The company sold 17.96 million metric tons of LNG in the second quarter of this year, which translates to nearly 72 million metric tons on an annualized basis.
This is a notable illustration of Shell's large-scale LNG operations, with roughly 44 million metric tons of annual equity LNG capacity and a significant presence in global LNG trade. The company operates one of the world's largest LNG shipping businesses, accounting for about 10% of the global market.
Shell's LNG trading operation also plays a crucial role, buying LNG from partners and third parties to supply customers willing to pay the highest prices. The company's vast network and expertise have enabled it to tap into growing demand in the LNG market, which is expected to reach nearly 700 million metric tons annually by 2050.
