Argentina's state-owned natural gas transportation company TGN has confirmed plans to move forward with the RIGI project, a US$2.2bn gas pipeline expansion that will increase the country's capacity to transport shale gas.

The announcement comes after months of speculation and rumors about the fate of the project, which is expected to boost Argentina's natural gas production by 10%.

According to TGN, the RIGI project aims to connect existing pipelines in western Argentina to the major consumption centers in Buenos Aires, increasing the country's overall pipeline capacity by 4.5bcm (billion cubic meters).
