Titas-28 Well Starts Supplying Gas to National Grid Amid Bangladesh's Energy Woes

A new well at the Titas gas field has begun supplying 12.5 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcfd) to the national grid, providing a modest boost to domestic production in Bangladesh.

The well, named Titas-28, was drilled by the state-run operator of Titas, Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL), at a cost of around Tk 2.0 billion. Work on the well began on December 15 last year and was completed on June 19.

The commercial gas flow from Titas-28 was inaugurated by State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit, who noted that the additional supply would help ease pressure on the country's energy system.

Amit emphasized the importance of raising domestic output, citing that imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) has become two to three times more expensive. The minister stated, 'We do not have the capacity to bear this cost,' adding that local gas companies had been neglected for over a decade but are now being revitalised.
